My goal is to help students discover their ability to perform a wide array of repertoire and styles, to assist them critically analyze and tackle challenges that arise in their learning process, and to encourage them to apply these skills outside of performance.
Students will receive a solid fundamental training that allows them to perform musical works from all genres and varying levels of technique. This is achieved through thorough study of intonation, scales, melodic and technical etudes, and reinforced in performance pieces.
Each student brings individuality to a piece of music that shapes their personal performance of that work. While each student’s curriculum has specific learning goals and suggested repertoire to accomplish those goals, the repertoire is just that: suggested. If a student is passionate about a certain era or style of music, or if they particularly enjoy playing unaccompanied or chamber works for example, it will be taken into account when choosing repertoire for their individual studies. Exploring and harnessing personal artistry in a musically logical way with individual expression is key to any musician’s success.
